August Newsletter for Patreon Community

Published over 2 years ago • 2 min read

Beloved Reader,

I'm excited to be in community with you all this Sunday, August 29th 3-5pm EET.

Here's the zoom link.

We may or may not do physical yoga asana. The needs of the group will determine which kind of healing modalities we'll engage with on that day. Do come dressed comfortably with a yoga mat or floor space, according to your capacity. Be sure to hydrate and nourish yourself in every way you need so that we can show up with presence for one another.

Leo season was difficult for me, I'm not going to lie. I experienced loss and disappointment in different ways, so it's felt like I've been processing and metabolising grief. Luckily, I've had the good fortune of coming into contact with spiritual teachers who affirm grief as a legitimate part of life and practice. And it lends well to Virgo energy. As a Virgo moon, I welcome the hermit, "complete in one's self" energy of this horoscope cycle.

So, a few goodies that have kept me uplifted and supported have been:

1. Listening to Sweet Honey and the Rock (Still the Same me album). I particularly like the Nature Song, Still Gotta Get Up in the Morning and I Love to Laugh.

2. Listening to the audio version of Lama Rod's book Love and Rage. It's fabulous. He's fabulous. My only regret is that I can't access more of his community's offerings due to time difference between EST and EET. If you're not familiar with Bhumisparsha, I invite you to follow them. They do amazingly inclusive and progressive work within Buddhism in the Western context. In particular, their combination of Disability Justice and Dharma, not to mention their ongoing committment to anti-racism and QT advocacy, is unparalled.

3. Taking "Teaching Trans Affirming Yoga" with Allé K @transyogateacher. I learned a lot. It's humbling to realise how ingrained cis privilege is but this is how privilege works. It's the things we don't notice that we need to be most awake for. The thing I'm balancing is the habituation to systems of oppression and domination and the emotional labor it takes to call out/call in. Can anyone relate? In these instances, I try to practice self-compassion and reminding myself that it'sconsistency over urgency. If I hear problematic things and I choose to remain silent, I like to self-inquire why I made that choice. I then remind myself that there will, sadly and most likely, be a next time that problematic behaviour will show up (in me as well ;) ). And that there will be a next time for me to make a different choice, depending on how resourced I am in that moment.

Self-compassion is community-compassion.

How about you? What are ways you've been uplifting and supporting yourself? Do share as this can help the community remain inspired to try your own unique recipe of magical self-care.

Lastly, if you aren't on the Patreon newsletter mailing list, do sign up if you wish. I'll also post each newsletter in the patreon page just so all bases are covered :)

See you on Sunday 3pm EET

With care,

Wambui ❤️

Hello Reader, With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the social media streets have been abuzz with various nuanced and complex (as well as not so nuanced, not so complex) perspectives around the long legacy of the British monarch. At the end of this newsletter, I'll share with you two videos I find quite useful around navigating the complexity surrounding many of those who have been affected by the legacy of colonization. I myself am a product of both sides of the equation, coming from an...
