A few treasures for you..

Published 2 months ago • 2 min read

Hello Reader,

I just realised how much I miss writing to you for the sheer pleasure of sharing resources that have been nourishing me.

Sure, newsletters are about letting you know about offers, workshops and events that are coming up. I love a clear sales funnel which turns fans and followers into enthusiastic clients AND nothing beats receiving messages of appreciation from you, just from the power of compelling storytelling.

So, here are a few recommendations that have filled my heart with joy, hope and fortitude this week...

I enjoyed listening to Dharma & Emancipation: Reflections on Juneteenth with Dr. Kamilah Majied. It is a powerful dharma talk and meditation on the interdependence of life; on how ALL liberation is connected to Black liberation. While it was created for Juneteenth 2023, it serves well during Black history month; to refresh and strengthen our resolve to wake up to the ways the delusions created by anti-blackness can hijack our best efforts at getting free.

I love the synergy between Lama Rod Owens and Spring Washam. I've previously shared their podcast, The Spirit Underground, in past newsletters. Here's another banger for you: Freedom, Practice, and Ancestors hosted by the Baba Ram Dass network. It is an excellent conversation around the concept of Spiritual Abolition where Spring and Lama Rod "explore black abolitionist liberation practices for these evolving times. As spiritual abolitionists, we will share advanced spiritual technologies that can be used to disrupt internalized oppression and accelerate our personal and collective evolution." (Reference: Baba Ram Dass Network)

Finally, we get to the crown jewel of my week. As I shared in my last newsletter, I have recently gone back to my trauma-informed yoga studies with the fabulous Zabie Yamasaki and her course, Transcending Sexual Trauma through Yoga. I enjoyed hearing her speak about Creating a Culture of Consent on the Trauma-Informed Future podcast, and it inspired me to go back and finish getting certified in her training. After becoming certified in the Trauma- Conscious Yoga Method in 2020, I needed time, as since the topic is quite heavy. Now I feel ready to delve in again.

A side-effect of this has been that my children and I have been pulling a yoga card each morning from Yamasaki's card deck. (This is not a sponsored post for any of Yamasaki's products and services; just real time appreciation for her work in the world).

It's a true delight to not only resource myself but also share this with my children. Today, my little one pulled the same card as he had a few days ago. I said that when the same card is pulled, we need to pay special attention to the message.

His message x 2 was the following affirmation:

I offer myself patience, kindness, gratitude and compassion.

I offer this affirmation to you with the hope that it can be of benefit and resource you today, Reader.

Alright, that's it from me for today. Remember that you can join in our monthly Seven Homecomings practice on March 4th. Reply to this email with your email address and I'll add you to the group. It's a wonderful way to become familiar with the Buddha dharma and Black abolitionist liberation wisdom, as transmitted through Lama Rod, who will be teaching at Yoga Roots Odeceixe this spring. We can't wait to host you as you get these liberatory teachings!

With metta,

Wambui ❤️

Dear Reader, We hope the start of the Spring season has brought you ease and much self-kindness and self-compassion. While it would be understandable to simply wish for positivity about the state of the world, the truth is, this would be an expression of what trauma specialist, Dr. Peter Levine, calls " Bliss bypass as a trauma response." There is so much sustained, ongoing grief and harm being experienced and witnessed in the world, as multiple genocides continue to be waged. This...

Hello Reader, With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, the social media streets have been abuzz with various nuanced and complex (as well as not so nuanced, not so complex) perspectives around the long legacy of the British monarch. At the end of this newsletter, I'll share with you two videos I find quite useful around navigating the complexity surrounding many of those who have been affected by the legacy of colonization. I myself am a product of both sides of the equation, coming from an...
